It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have already been conquered.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their batsmen to possess a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to deliver her newest gem.

Originally famous as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has witnessed all through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her bow and seven international trophies have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it has been a disappointing period because it appeared my form was missing at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your fighting spirit activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her major advantage - and an invaluable trait in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from that point Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to take the field and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself that way, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 deliveries while she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

By the time she was removed her side needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the belief to accomplish that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we know we can succeed."

Those words will be the last rival teams at this World Cup need to hear.

During the last week a belief they will win from any position has become more firm - this triumph coming after success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a significant event.

So great is her will, she later said she regretted not playing through the pain.

However although she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have delayed consideration of ending her career, this championship is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as skipper.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
